STATE SENATE ACTION ON H. B. 2381
June 21. 2006

After the attempt to reinstate the original language of H.B. 2381 which banned both same-sex marriage and civil unions failed, there was a valiant attempt to introduce similar language which would have also banned civil unions.  Senator John Gordner introduced that amendment.  This was a very close vote . . . in all actuality this was the most important vote last night.  Twenty-three senators voted for an amendment that, although not exactly as the original language, would have banned civil unions also.  The AFA of PA supported this language.

Roll Call on Gordner Amendment No. A-8317 which would have banned both same-sex marriage and civil unions:

The action of the Senate was a definite setback . . . but can it be deemed an absolute defeat?  No . . . 23 Senators voting to reinstate language to ban both same-sex marriage and civil unions proves that!
