AFA of PA ACTION ALERT 1.) NEW RADIO PROGRAM 2.) UPDATE ON CHARACTER EDUCATION 3.) THE HOUSE ACTS ON ABERCROMBIE AND FITCH 1.) A new bi-weekly radio program, American Family Focus on Pennsylvania Issues, airs on Franklin's AFR station WAWN 89.5 FM. The program is hosted by Diane Gramley and can be heard at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The program updates the listening audience on issues that are important to Pennsylvania families. 2.) There was no action taken on SB 596 on Tuesday afternoon, but it is on the House Calendar for a vote on Third Consideration on January 26. Click here to read the bill. Again the question is: "Do we want the government teaching our children their definition of tolerance, loyalty, patriotism, etc.? Please contact your state representative and ask them to vote "NO" on SB 596. 3.) Good news! On December 22 the State House voted 199 to 0 on House Resolution 506 "condemn(ing) the marketing practices of Abercrombie and Fitch Stores, Inc. and implor(ing) them to develop more responsible advertising campaigns." In recent years the A&F clothing catalogues have not lived up to the name -- clothing! Up to two-thirds of the pages in the catalogues have been of nude or scantily clad college-age models, many of them in sexual poses. The catalogues were in shrink-wrap and an ID was required in order to prevent minors from purchasing the clothing catalogues! ACTIONS NEEDED: 1.) If you're in the WAWN listening area, tune into "American Family Focuses on Pennsylvania Issues" on Tuesday or Thursday. 2.) Contact your State Representative and ask them to vote "NO" on SB 596 -- character education. Find your legislator by keying in your zip code. 3.) While you have them on the phone, please thank them for voting for HR 506 condemning Abercrombie & Fitch's marketing practices.
