NEWS RELEASE Geno’s Philly Cheese Steaks and the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council – one win, one loss (Philadelphia) -- The Philadelphia Human Relations Commission decision to allow Joey Vento to keep his "This is AMERICA: WHEN ORDERING 'PLEASE SPEAK ENGLISH.' " sign was the right decision, the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a traditional values group, said today. The signs had been in place since October 2005 and no complaints had been filed until the chairman of the Philadelphia Human Relations Commission filed one in June 2006. “The charges against Mr. Vento were brought under the City’s Fair Practices ordinance – the very one the City of Philadelphia is using to evict the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council. A business owner’s right to make a political statement was upheld by the Commission’s decision. The English language won a victory today,” commented Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA. According to the commission Mr. Vento’s signs discriminated against those who could not speak English, even though Geno’s had never refused service to anyone. The signs were likened to Jim Crow era “Whites Only” signs because they targeted a specific group and might make members of that group feel discriminated against or unwelcome. “Mr. Vento, as the grandson of Italian immigrants, knows the importance of learning English to succeed in this country – that was the message he was trying to deliver to his foreign immigrant customers. One must ask if his grandparents had never learned English would Mr. Vento be the successful businessman that he is today,” Gramley questioned. The Cradle of Liberty Scout Council continues to be discriminated against by the City of Philadelphia because of their ban on homosexuals in their ranks. Who will uphold the Boy Scouts’ right to make decisions that have in mind the safety of the boys in their charge? Who will step in to prevent the City's Fair Practices ordinance from being used in the May 31st eviction of the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council from the headquarters they built and have maintained since 1929? How can any city question the right of the Boy Scouts to take steps to protect their Scouts: Contrary to the homosexual assertion that heterosexual molestations outnumber those committed by homosexuals, Yale and Harvard-connected psychiatrist Jeffrey Satinover states that "careful studies show that pedophilia is far more common among homosexuals than heterosexuals." Satinover adds, "The greater absolute number of heterosexual cases reflects the fact that heterosexual males outnumber homosexual males by approximately 36 to 1. Heterosexual child molestation cases outnumber homosexual cases by only 11 to 1, implying that pedophilia is more than three times more common among homosexuals."
