PA Marriage Protection Amendment Voted Out of Senate Judiciary Committee by Overwhelming Bi-partisan Support

(Harrisburg)  Today protecting one man one woman marriage in Pennsylvania moved a step closer to reality, a statewide pro-family organization said in response to the passage of S.B. 1250 out of the Senate Judiciary Committee.   The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a member of the PA4Marriage Coalition, noted that the 10-4 bi-partisan vote should send a clear message to the entire Senate that protecting marriage in Pennsylvania is a very important issue.

“No other issue is more important than protecting the foundation of a society.  Health care, property tax relief or graduation tests are not important, if society does not have a stable foundation.  Protect one man one woman marriage, then move forward with the other issues,” commented Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

The bill was voted out of committee with provisions to prohibit civil unions intact.  This step is necessary because legalizing civil unions would be used as a stepping stone to same-sex marriage even as is being done in Connecticut, Vermont and New Jersey.

“As traditional marriage and the natural family are under attack across the country, legislators must take the steps necessary to protect both.  Pennsylvania’s Senate Judiciary Committee took an important first step today.  Now it needs to be quickly brought before the full Senate for a vote and on to the State House,” Gramley further stated.
